What is Holochain?
Holochain is an open-source data integrity framework with peer-to-peer networking that’s designed to power decentralized applications (DApps). On the Holo network, users can control their own data and applications functions, and how each application connects to and interacts with others.
What is HOT?
An ERC-20 token, HoloToken (HOT) is a placeholder currency that was launched during Holochain’s ICO, prior to the launch of the Holo mainnet. It can be swapped 1:1 for HoloFuel, Holochain’s native mutual-credit and asset-backed currency, during the 6-month guaranteed swap period. Following this period, token holders will still be able to swap their HOT for HoloFuel, though the prices may not necessarily be 1:1. Rather than a store of value, HoloFuel is designed to function as a medium of exchange.

Launched in 2018, HOT’s total supply of 177.62 billion was minted with 75% allocated for public sale, and 25%, which won't be vested, reserved for the company and team. It currently has a circulating supply of 177.62 billion.
According to CoinGecko, HOT’s price reached an ATH of $0.031 in April 2021. While it hasn’t been able to maintain its high price, due to the current bear market, it remains well above its ATL of $0.00022 in March 2020.

What Is HOT Used For?
As stated earlier, HOT was swapped for HoloFuel, which is now the platform’s hosting utility token. HoloFuel works as a mutual credit accounting system, with every transaction countersigned by both parties. HoloFuel is a Holochain-based currency that Holochain application (hApp) providers primarily use to pay Holo hosts for providing computing resources needed for the processing and data storage of the hApp.
HoloFuel can be spent through various hApps and online marketplaces. HoloFuel earned by hosting can be redeemed for other currencies to pay your bills and borrow, based on your proven hosting track record.
As opposed to passive investments, the HOT and HoloFuel currencies were designed with a long-term approach in mind. Unlike security tokens, these currencies do not have a specific mechanism for return or reward.
The overall design is oriented toward value stability, not volatility or equity appreciation. The value of HoloFuel is, therefore, intended to grow with the steady expansion of the Holo network.
