About Kyber Network Crystal (KNC)
What Is Kyber Network (KNC)?
Kyber Network (KNC) is a multi-chain decentralized app (DApp) that provides its users with the best cryptocurrency swap rates sourced from many protocols. Kyber was originally launched on Ethereum (ETH). The platform has gradually expanded to more than a dozen blockchain networks, including the largest smart contract chains in the industry besides Ethereum — Arbitrum (ARB), BNB Chain (BNB), Avalanche (AVAX), Polygon (MATIC) and Fantom (FTM).
When users need to swap coins or tokens, Kyber searches for the best rates across its pool of source protocols. Due to its efficiency and ability to access many liquidity sources, Kyber is popular not only with individual crypto traders but also among the operators of other decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols. A number of these protocols, such as BENQI and Lido, have incorporated Kyber into their platforms to source liquidity and offer reasonable swap rates.
Kyber Network’s core product is the KyberSwap decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregator and automated market maker (AMM). This is where you can access the platform’s great swap rates. The DEX also offers yield farming opportunities for liquidity providers via its swap-pair pools.
Kyber’s main cryptocurrency is Kyber Network Crystal (KNC), an ERC-20 token on Ethereum.
Kyber Network Crystal (KNC) Price
Kyber Network initially launched the Kyber Network Crystal Legacy (KNCL) token in October 2017. KNCL was then upgraded to Kyber Network Crystal (KNC) on Apr 20, 2021, to allow for more flexibility, trading at around $3 at its launch.
Until March 2022, the token traded in a narrow range between $1 and $3. KNC started to rise sharply in March, reaching an all-time high of $5.70 by late April 2022. This has been the token’s only appreciable price growth period so far. Following this rise to its pinnacle, KNC fell to a local low of $1.31 by mid-May 2022.
The token then attempted to reverse its losses, climbing to $2.65 in late May 2022, but retraced to price points around $1.30 by June. KNC was remarkably stable between June and October, trading between $1 and $2. However, in mid-October, it fell below $1 for the first time and continued on a shallow downtrend. So far, late 2022 has proved to be KNC’s period of decline to historical lows, with an all-time low of $0.448 on Dec 31.
In mid-January 2023, KNC’s price rose slightly, though never exceeding $1 even by late March.
What Is KNC Used For?
The KNC token is used for governance, staking and liquidity farming on the Kyber Network protocol. Holders of KNC can stake their tokens to participate in the platform’s governance, which is executed via the KyberDAO. Staking KNC also lets you earn rewards from trading fees charged by the protocol.
Besides staking, you can also earn crypto rewards by adding liquidity to the pools on the KyberSwap DEX. A small number of these pools are based on the KNC token, with the most popular pool being ETH-KNC.
Outside the Kyber Network, the KNC token can be used for crypto payments with participating vendors, and as collateral for loans and margin trading on DeFi platforms.
